Criminal homicide—a.) Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter: the willful (nonnegligent) killing of one human being by another. Deaths caused by negligence, attempts to kill, assaults to kill, suicides, and accidental deaths are excluded. The program classifies justifiable homicides separately and limits the definition to: (1) the killing of a felon by a law enforcement officer in the line of duty; or (2) the killing of a felon, during the commission of a felony, by a private citizen. b.) Manslaughter by negligence: the killing of another person through gross negligence. Deaths of persons due to their own negligence, accidental deaths not resulting from gross negligence, and traffic fatalities are not included in the category Manslaughter by Negligence.

Which state had the highest numbers of crimes you selected?
-Louisiana
In which state did crime increase the most over the 5-year period?
-Neither*
Did your chosen crimes decrease in any state?
-Not really*
*Can’t really determine because crime fluctuates from year to year, need to do a separate study over many more than five years to really determine if crime is going down or up in any state.
What do these data meant for each crime in each state over time?
-This data reflects the amount of crime reported to the FBI, not everything gets reported to the police or even from police to the UCR. So really this information only gives us a little peak at crime in these states.
Story
When looking at The Uniform Crime Reports from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Georgia, it’s easy to see that Louisiana reported crime rates are significantly higher than Mississippi and Georgia. Why is this? There are many factors that could lead to Louisiana's higher crime reports. One of those factors to look at would be the state population. In 1980, Louisiana's population was 4,205,900, Mississippi’s was 2,520,638, and Georgia’s was 5,463,105. Looking at these number we can see that in descending order of populations Georgia has the highest, Louisiana comes in second, and Mississippi has the lowest population. It makes sense that Louisiana has more reported crime than Mississippi, but it doesn’t explain why Louisiana has so much more crime then Georgia, whose population is much higher.
Another factor one can look at when using the Uniform crime reports are tourism. Louisiana had about 14 million tourists, while Georgia had about 3.5 million, and Mississippi had about 23 million tourists in 2017. Once again, this information doesn't lead us to an explanation of why Louisiana has such high reported crime.
Lastly, we can look at other random factors. For example, Louisiana had the World fair held in New Orleans in 1984. Louisiana is also the 7th highest state with the most serial murder. New Orleans culture is also very focused on parties and alcohol. The streets are covered with bars, Mardi Grais is one big party, and it’s one of the biggest tourist spots in Louisiana. These factors can help us understand why crime may be so high but there are many factors that influence crime. Crime fluctuates year to year naturally as well. Without a specific study done and statistics over many more then 5 years, it's difficult to pick out reasons why crime is so high.
