Tin Foil: a Protector

Tin Foil Conversation

Between teacher (blue sweater and glasses)

Guy (NDSU Green Sweatshirt)

Girl (Pink Long sleeve)

Girl (white sweatshirt)

Heard the conversation in Computer Science Class (CSCI 159)

The conversation was started by the teacher after she asked us to answer a question on Top Hat, she asked something along the lines of “Who wrote this tin foil hat answer” then the girl in the white sweatshirt replied about going to the store to get aluminum foil. Then the Guy in the green NDSU sweat shirt asked if they even make aluminum foil. The guy seemed shocked that aluminum foil was a real. They then discussed the existence of the foil and whether tin and aluminum foil were the same thing. It was very playful and fun. Mostly it was the two girls making light of the fact that the guy didn’t know that aluminum foil was real. The teacher only sparked the conversation after the comment she made she was no longer involved in the conversation.

Story

Are Gen Z’s Prepared for Government Take Over?

A tin foil hat is a popular phrase that relates to the belief that wearing a hat made of tin foil can protect you from things like aliens and mind control. Recently reports that our electronics are listening and watching us and young people obsessions with conspiracy theories have made the possibility of needing to wear a tin foil hat a lot more likely. With these new threats, are we ready? In a recent conversation between students on during a computer science class at North Dakota State University raised the questions, are college students prepared and equipped to be safe in this new era of fear and little trust with our society and aliens?

A light-hearted fun conversation between friends led to a fear that we are not as prepared and knowledgeable as we should about protecting ourselves against our electronics and aliens. This conversation started when a professor at North Dakota State University made an offhand comment regarding a response to a question she asked in class. The comment was something along the lines of “Who wrote this tin foil hat answer”. This sparked students to converse about what it means to use a tin foil hat comment and the logistics of making a tin foil hat. One student replied about going to the store to obtain some tin foil, while another student looked dumb founded and asked, “Do stores really sell tin foil?” to which he got the response from three other students “Yes”. The questioning student then asked “Wait, Tin foil is a real thing?”. To which, once again, the three other students replied with a yes.  As the conversation continued a conversation on whether or not aluminum and tin foil are the same thing. In case you are wondering, today aluminum foil and tin foil are the same thing. In the past tin foil was made of tin and aluminum foil was made of aluminum. Tin foil was later changed to be made out of aluminum and the two are now the same thing. (science.answers.com)

If some college students don’t even know that tin foil exists, how can they protect themselves from the many conspiracy and alien theories out today? What about the younger generations? In order to protect ourselves and others, we must be informed on what to look out for. I am not saying to wear tin foil everywhere you go, though there is a new signal protecting line of clothing featuring hats and underwear for a more stylish option compared to a hat made of tin foil. (Shield) Other steps you can take is to learn about threats and to educate yourself on signs of an issue so you can be safe in an unsure world.
